Upper Potrero, El Cerrito

Turning Shadows into Light      This project completely reimagined the home’s interior layout, beginning with the removal of the existing walls that separated the living room, kitchen, dining area, and family room. Opening up these spaces resulted in a seamless, flowing layout that enhances both functionality and visual appeal. The removal of walls gave the entire space a sense of cohesion and openness.

The ceilings were then reframed with recessed beams, adding a modern touch while maintaining the charm of the original structure. This architectural upgrade not only gives the space a more contemporary, airy feel but also draws the eye upward, making the rooms feel more spacious and inviting. To further brighten the space, we added new windows throughout, allowing natural light to pour in from every angle. A new sliding door was also installed, opening the home to the outdoors and providing easy access to the patio, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

The kitchen was redesigned with both style and practicality in mind. We created an open-concept kitchen that flows effortlessly into the newly expanded dining area, making it perfect for both cooking and entertaining. The design allows for a smooth transition between spaces, improving the overall flow of the home and making it easier for the family to gather and spend time together.

To complete the transformation, we updated the flooring, installed new lighting fixtures, and applied a fresh coat of paint throughout the entire upper floor. These finishing touches brought the whole space together, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels both cozy and modern. The result is a home that feels expansive yet intimate, with a perfect balance of openness and comfort.

We had the pleasure of working with one of our favorite Architect/Designers on this project.
